Export guides
Get your history out of the walled garden.
Every service lets you download what you've recorded. Ask for a copy of everything, then upload the whole archive to StatsOverlay as it is. There's no need to unzip it or pick files out: the activities inside are found for you and the rest is skipped.
Some archives take a day or two to arrive, so it's worth asking for yours now, even while you wait for an invitation. On Ride with GPS? There's nothing to download: connect your account once you're in and your library comes across on its own.
Strava
Download your Strava archive
Open Strava's download page ↗ (opens in a new tab)- Every activity you uploaded
- Usually ready within a few hours
- One .zip
- Open Strava's account pageOn strava.com, go through the menus below. Despite the name, nothing is deleted unless you ask for that separately.SettingsMy AccountDownload or Delete Your AccountGet Started
- Choose Request Your ArchiveIt is under Download Request. Strava starts building a zip of your account.
- Wait for Strava's emailIt usually arrives within a few hours, with a download link in it.
- Upload the zip to StatsOverlay, as it isYour activities are in its activities folder, as the original files from your device. We read those and skip the photos, posts and everything else.
Activities entered by hand on Strava have no file, so they cannot come across. Everything recorded on a device can.
Garmin Connect
Export everything from Garmin Connect
Open Garmin's export page ↗ (opens in a new tab)- Your whole history
- Usually ready within a day or two
- One .zip, often several GB
- Open Garmin's data export pageSign in at garmin.com and go through the menus below, or use the button above.AccountData ManagementExport Your Data
- Choose Request Data ExportGarmin starts putting your archive together. You can close the page.
- Wait for Garmin's emailIt contains a download link. Garmin says it can take up to 30 days, though it is usually much sooner. The link expires after a while, so download it when it comes.
- Upload the zip to StatsOverlay, as it isDo not unzip it. Your activities are a couple of folders deep, inside more zips, and we dig them out. Sleep, steps and the rest of your health data are ignored.
Just want a few activities now? Open one in Garmin Connect on the web, choose the gear icon, then Export Original. You get its .fit file in seconds, and you can drop several at once.
From the watch
Copy files straight off your watch
- No account needed
- Two minutes
- Recent activities only
- Plug the watch into your computerUse its charging cable. Most Garmin watches show up as a drive called GARMIN.
- Open the Activity folderEvery file in there is one activity, named by date.GARMINActivity
- Select them all and upload them to StatsOverlayYou can drop hundreds at once. Ones already here are recognised and skipped.
Watches only keep recent activities. Older ones are deleted when it fills up, so use a Strava or Garmin export for your full history.
On a Mac, newer watches do not appear as a drive. Use Garmin Express, or a file-transfer app such as OpenMTP, to reach the same folder.
Something else
Other apps and devices
- One activity at a time
- FIT keeps the most detail
- WahooIn the ELEMNT app, open a workout, then share it as a .fit file.
- COROSIn the COROS app, open an activity, then export it as .fit.
- Polar, Suunto and othersTheir web dashboards export single activities as .fit, .gpx or .tcx. Several can sync to Ride with GPS or Strava, whose exports cover everything at once.
Tired of exporting one at a time? If your device syncs to Ride with GPS, connect that instead and new activities will arrive on their own.
Got your archive?
StatsOverlay is invite-only while it grows. Once you're in, the first thing it asks for is this file.
